Most of you know I'm stuck living with dad til January (when I've seen a few flats I like so I'm pretty sure I can move out). He's driving me *insane*. I mean there's the normal things like he won't sod off and go to bed (he gets up at least once an hour and sits on the sofa, being visibly irritated that I have lights and TV on and sleeps there because he can't sleep...), but now he's started being a complete asshole and then insisting it's not his fault.

Couple of days ago while I was asleep my mobile rang. He didn't get to it in time to answer it so they left me a voicemail. Now he doesn't know it but my voicemail is screwed and will only let you get into it when the new voice mail symbol is up. But anyway he decided to listen to it so he could tell me what it said - because apparently I'm incapable of listening to it myself. But he didn't actually pay attention to it. So I know that the computer shop said something abotu me needing to call them and my laptop and closing on 22nd but he doesn't know what as he 'wasn't paying attention'. This is apparently not his fault and nothing I should be annoyed about as he wouldn't have listened to it if I'd been awake (how about not listening to *my* messages anyway) and he didn't deliberately not pay attention...

Today I got a Christmas card from someone in Holland that I know. Addressed to Kay (and I assume no surname). Now my name is Kathryn, so it's not like it was addressed to a Rebecca or something. Kay. Kathryn. Not worlds apart. But rather than waiting until I got up at lunchtime (when we were going out so he could have gone to a post box then) he took it back to the postbox when he went to get his morning paper because 'I don't know anyone in Holland'. And again this is not his fault, how was he supposed to know? Gee you could have waited two fucking hours and *asked* me. I don't get many cards in the post and I knew this was coming so I was looking forward to it. In fact it's only the second one I've got this year. Butr again apparently I'm overreacting and it's not his fault and I shouldn't be upset.

God I just want to be able to get my post and phonecalls, is that really too much to ask?

So we arranged to have our kitchen redone because we have no cooker right now. Therefore we want it done by Christmas so we can cook our Christmas meal.

We had a builder we hired because he was recommended. He fixed a window in our garage andd put new stairs in for the loft, but not once did he turn up when he was supposed to. Sometimes he would postpone it by a day; when he did turn up it was never before 11am, usually closer to 12pm. It's an hour's drive to get here, so clearly he wasn't leaving home before 10am at the earliest.

The only thing left to do was the kitchen. He didn't call us about it so we called him Wednesday night. Oh he's coming Monday, his wife told us. Oh and you need to find an electrician to work with him... So we scrabbled around trying to find one on short notice. Got a nice firm who would come Monday. Yesterday we got a message. Oh he's not coming Monday because he has another job to do first. He'll be there Tuesday, and he doesn't want the electrician til Wednesday.

Dad rang the wife back and said is he definitely coming Tuesday? Because he's never here when he says and he does good work but it's getting annoying. And she told us oh well if you feel like that we won't do it at all. We rang back today to confirm it and yes the builder feels we have insinuated he's unreliable so he's cancelling the job completely!

So it looks like Christmas dinner will be cooked in the small combioven and the microwave and we'll have to find veggies we can do without having a hob...

So if you live in the Yorkshire area, don't use J Foster & Son. (The actual builder is Mark Foster but the firm is in, I think, his father's name).
